About the MUSIM project

The MUSIM project is a federally funded (Belspo) long-term research project co-directed by the Brussels Musical Instruments Museum and UCLouvain. The goal of the project is to research the archives of the Musical Instruments Museum dating from its creation in 1877 until its attachment to the Royal Museums of Art and History in 1992. In addition to this archive, the project will also research related documents in museums throughout Europe and further abroad. The most notable figures in this project are the first two directors of the museum, Victor-Charles Mahillon and Ernest Closson, who were influential in the fields of acoustics, organology, and music history. From 1877 until 1992, the museum was an integral part of the Brussels Royal Conservatory of Music.
